Bridget's Story of the Great Famine
The O'Donnells were evicted from their home during the Great Famine. Bridget's husband Marcus may have died around this time. The account also makes reference to her lying down, which means she was pregnant. This suggested that the family had been able to keep their head above water until at least 1840 days as fertility tends to decline when starvation sets in.
