India's Relationships Are Fluid and Changed
India's relationships are fluid and changing, and it's not always to India's advantage. Nepal is also slipping away from India, looking to China to escape the fact that due to its geography, it has been in the mercy of Indian foreign policy now for decades. The other worrying factor here for New Delhi is the fact that Bhutan is in an incredibly similar position, and might start having those conversations as well. But what should India do about all this? Because there aren't that many good options on the table. Any war India launches against China will quickly become a two-front war with Pakistan. And even then, India's trade deficit is far too high.
