The Problem With Folk Intuition Surveys
John Benson argues that many survey responses are often not indicative of subjects's intuitions, but are instead the product of guesses, hunches, or inferences. The worries may be especially pressing in the odd and ambiguous context of a set of hypothetical and often bizarre cases presented by a philosopher to a philosophically naive subject unaware of the nature of the discipline. So it might be difficult to draw reliable conclusions from at least many of the results of X phi.
