H5N1: A Threat to the Wild Bird Population
T.S. Kuyken co-authored a letter to the Lancet arguing that recent changes in the behavior of H5N1 make it crucial for the world to try and prevent the virus starting a new pandemic. Two years ago the virus became adapted to long-term circulation in wild birds, he says. It is also constantly a threat to both poultry farms but also to wild mammals and to humans.
