The Importance of International Law in the Face of Disintegration

In 2006 a study group was dealing with what might be called an unanticipated problem of luxury. It's possible to see that if the fear of disintegration provoked by the extraordinary proliferation of these new institutions and new elements of international law was exaggerated, the question remains as to how disparate parts of international law are nevertheless to operate harmoniously. This question has not lost none of its urgency, indeed a backlash from some states and from rather differently motivated from some academic quarters has only intensified the importance of the question. Both at the micro level of the way in which specific institutions are specific questions and at the macro level of the system's capacity to deliver public goods that are expected of it.
