The Amygdala and the Brain's Attentional Network
The amygdala is an important part of what you might think of as the brain's attentional network. It responds to both positive and negative stimuli, returning to my key idea that it's not just about fear. The visual system has been extensively studied in monkeys because it's assumed to be similar to that of humans. So I hope you'll come away from this episode realizing that there is more to the amygdala and thalamus than we have ever imagined.
