King and Carmichael gave competing speeches around campfires at night. King trying in vain to calm the waters while Carmichael was trying to fire up his troops. When King's supporters attempted to sing We Shall Overcome, Carmichael's followers sang over them with their new version of We Shall Over Run. The next morning we had a joint press conference affirming that the march was non-violent and that whites were welcomed.
