The Passover Is a Late Meal

In verse 20, it's evening and this is a late meal because it's Passover. That's important for the Jews. So what Jesus is doing with the disciples is typical of first century Jews gathering together where families all probably wouldn't be able to travel up to Jerusalem. The fact that Jesus had already made arrangements for the Passover was actually very smart on his part. A lot of times we think, well, I'll just fly by the seat of my pants and I'll just, you know, figure it out when I get there. Jesus doesn't do that.
