Sacrifices Are a Concession to Human Nature
According to rene gira, the common denominator in sacrifices is internal violence. In other words, according to girad te form of violence to which societies are very prone is vengeance. Sacrifices are not ends in themselves, but part of the terror's proram to construct a world redeemed from the otherwise interminable cycle of revenge. So we inflict violence on animals, but not on human beings. For us, the circle has been broken. We owe our good fortune to one of our social institutions, above all else, our judicial system that serves to deflect the menace of vengeance.
