Doctors should be comfortable with patients fasting if they understand what it is, she says. Patients can have small amounts of liquid every ten minutes throughout the day; that's plenty to drink for a faster. For pregnant women, doctors don't want them to fast but are able to let them do these small liquid amounts over the day. "I've never come across a situation where the patient or rabbi disagreed on that, again, because they know that i'm going to tell that to everybody," Triton says.
