New Zealand's Family Violence Laws

Nyan Shwaite was convicted of murdering his wife Anand in New Zealand. Judge Rick O'Donne had been attempting to give the family their best chance at reconciling, and had no way of knowing that tragedy would result. Chen Shun's half-sister Grace set up a trust fund which has raised more than $40,000 so far. The money remains untouched in a secure New Zealand bank account where it continues to accumulate interest. A 2014 report found that about half of the country's homicides were committed by an offender who belongs to the victim's family.
