The Importance of Properly Placed Pelvic Binders

The classic teaching for determining who needs a pelvic binder is unstable pelvis. Orthopedic surgeons in their natural habitat were only able to identify 50% of hemodynamically significant pelvic fractures by rocking the pelvis. If you've got the right mechanism and you either have an unconscious patient that cannot tell or you've got a conscious patient that identifies pain when you get near their pelvis, you should be seriously considering a Pelvic Binder.
