The Halach Principle of Reva'd Yosef

The halach principle of somebody who claims that he's Jewish is believed unless there's evidence to the contrary. Reva'd Yosef's position was you need to investigate as much to the best extent possible. As time has gone on, and I hunt this from one of the rabbinic founders of Shorashim off the record, that as they got better tracking down documents, the rabbinic got more and more strict about how much documentation is needed. They've only gotten stricter over time. It's a real problem,. but they are basing a position on reveling ushit, the position of early yoshit, and they're understanding what he said to the extreme.
