The Longevity Gap

We have more drug overdose deaths than any other high income country. Prescription opioid addiction deaths are actually declining somewhat from their peak. Between 2011 and 2021, the death toll from synthetic opioids like fentanyl went from just about nothing to 80,000 a year. That means that at peak, the fentanyl crisis is killing more than four times more people annually than the prescription opioid crisis.
