Bob Hoskins didn't want to do the movie because he just like done hook and a couple other family friendly films. The one thing that I still have some regrets about is that the movie may have tried to get a little too close to what the Mario Brothers video games were. And in that sense, it became a movie that was about a video game rather than being an entertaining movie in and of itself. There are a lot of problems with this movie. A lot of effort was put into it was not by any one person for long enough for it to feel like anything.
