Senator Tony Blinken has of course just been in China having high level meetings, including with President Xi Jinping. Both sides have said the meetings have gone quite well and they mark a good step towards fixing the relationship. But the Chinese have refused to reengage military to military contact. That's something that Washington considers to be quite crucial with regards to de-escalation. They've hinted that US sanctions are to blame for that. A number of Chinese government officials and companies, such as Huawei, who've been sanctioned since 2018 during the Trump administration.
