Date Farming in the United States
The first attempt to bring commercial date farming to california is connected to food explorers who set out in the late 18 hundreds. Food explorer David fairchild sent home mangoes, cashus, brockley avacado and more from places as far afield as danesia and mainland china. But he had his heart set on going to bagdad. I think the fairchild chooses bagdad for a reason that's so important to the history of deeds. It's that idea of american orientalism. This idea that people in the united states had not been travelling to the greater middle east, but they had been travelling in their imagination.
