The Russians and the Ukrainians Share a History of Democracy

Ukrainian culture, particularly around Kiev, is much older than Russian culture. The Ukrainians were never Serfs and have no history of bottom-up democracy. They've all this history is the top down, the big man at the top - Putin fits that role beautifully. This week is going to be enormously consequential because this is the week the Ukrainians mount their counter-offensive.
