The Benefits of Gestures for Language Learning

Developing sign earlier doesn't seem to facilitate verbal or oral language learning any faster. I can imagine that a child that's learning three languages simultaneously is also going to almost look delayed before they show that they have this like intense knowledge. That does happen. In fact, we have some studies of these are brain injured children actually. They're all delayed with respect to word learning. But what you do see is the ones who are gestured at 18 months now are talking in the normal range. The other ones who don't use gesture really need intervention.
