Coaching and Staffing Is the Number One Responsibility of a Product Manager

The biggest topic and this is another one of those very big and obvious differences between great product companies and the rest. Even if you go to a great university, you don't come out of it knowing how to be a great engineer. What you really learn is at the job. Nobody joins your company with the skills they need. So it's the manager's job to coach them. This is such a big difference. I'm glad that more companies are being more vocal about how important it is for managers to provide coaching. Coaching and staffing is normally about 80% of their work week. so it's coaching and staffing.
