In those early days when you're policing every bite of food and every move, it's very hard to just be fun. And so I think if you can accept that other people in your kid's life might be playing that role a little more prominently than you are, that's okay. But someone's got to be fun. The fun thing for me now about writing picture books is that I get to be this fun presence in my research lives.
