In 1900, I can't imagine people were really concerned about a large topic. And if we look at why these drugs were criminalized, it had to do with appeasing the people in the ACI exclusion league and others who were concerned about immigration from Asia. Mackenzie King visited and found out visited Vancouver and found out that there were these smoking opium factories. His initial comment was, well, I'm going to look into this drug business. Three days later, he told the Commission, I think it should be made impossible to manufacture this drug smoking opium anywhere in the Dominion. We will get some good out of this riot.
