The Rise and Fall of the Luffy Robberies in Japan
The so-called "Luffy robberies" have been linked to more than 50 cases of home invasion in Japan. Drivers were reportedly paid 800,000 yen, which is about $6,150 US, and robbers were paid 1 million yen,. The police later found the cars they'd rented with a smartphone inside one of them that had messages from someone known as Kim - thought to be an alias for another Japanese national who was being held in Philippines prison.
