The writers had originally pitched that the desk was like a solid black onyx. Michael Gallenberg, our production designer, said it would be more visually interesting if we made it out of marble. Tim James built it out of lumber and then we hired this guy, Ron Henson, who is an amazing painter to paint it to look like marble. Justin said there was a reason why they over decorated Dwight's office. And it was because they wanted to quote unquote hide the gun.
