The song sweet home Alabama was their first single to actually do anything as their only real hit. The reason why it blew up governor George Wallace was an active politician. They basically released a hate anthem into a country that was building a campaign of hate. All the people who voted for George Wallace definitely went out and bought this song and thought it was awesome. That's what made it a hit.
