The Easter Rising of 1916
The Easter Rising of 1916 was, if you like, turned into an event by its immediate commemoration. The Irish state later attempted to take that over as a whole series of other subaltern groups. So I suppose you could say within the act of commemoration, there is the potential or the possibility of a platform for future radical action. And we've got to talk about how important these commemorations are in galvanizing political movements now and in the past.
