The Gold Star in the Old Testament
Matthew is going to quote this and recontextualize it to mean that Jesus is the fulfillment of Hosea 11-1. That's what Matthew does with the Old Testament. The New Testament authors are going to read these passages and they're going to see the fulfillment in Israel. But to them, the gold star is when they see it in the fulfillment of Jesus.
