One of the biggest structural drivers of ecological degradation is the financial sector, which ultimately plays a key role in allocating society’s resources towards economic activities that generate carbon emissions or degrade nature. But it’s also a complex, adaptive system, which makes it hard to understand and know what to do about it. Dr Romain Svartzman and Dr Jeff Althouse have tried, and developed a political ecology of the international monetary system – and the purpose of today’s episode is to bring these transformative ideas to a wider audience.
