The Assassination of Cromwell

In 1657, members of parliament offer Cromwell the crown to stabilise Britain. He takes it seriously for a few weeks before deciding against it. As long as he's alive, there will be no monarchy according to new constitution. The succession becomes hereditary and all heads of state are elected by popular vote.
