The Signal Strength of Randall's Guilt
Capelli: Barnes's blackmail is too quiet and Randall's leaving Barnes to die is too loud in terms of the signal in the text. Watson has made a promise to protect Randall because he came in. So if we want to preserve Watson's judge-like quality, he can't break that promise to Randall. Because that makes him culpable. And this takes it right down to the green level of what's actually happening.
