The Different Types of Optimization Modeling
In optimization modeling, you have a model andYou have a solver. In the machine learning world, for example, we often combine modeling and solving where I'm choosing to do a tree based model. So I'm building building everything for that kind of solution method. Yes, there's some tuning under the hood that may or may not be automated. But basically imagine the automated ML framework where you say, Hey, I have this problem. Give me whatever algorithm works well there. Just basically, I'm formulating the problem. And then under the hood, the solver chooses how to solve it. That's how the optimizing in the optimization world problems are formulated and then solved.
