The Importance of Self Sacrifice
When the Archbishop gives the king the orb, he says the words receive this orb, set under the cross and remember that the whole world is subject to the power and empire of Christ. So in otherwords, he's told at that moment, you do not have ultimate power. All power is circumscribed, you are accountable to some order that is above yourself. And therefore there is a kind of prescribing, a kind of limiting of the power of the monarch by that very act.
