The Importance of Self-Compassion in Children

Co-regulation is probably the majority of what we want to focus on. Are there any skill building things that we can do with our children to help them in these tough moments? I think it's really important to help them understand where their big feelings come from so that we take away any shame. Strong steady breathing is like a lullaby for your amygdala. When you start to feel yourself rising, rise, rising, you can take some strong steady breaths. We also want to talk to them about the power of a pause.
