The Thatcher Government's Response to the Sterling Crisis
In 1980, sterling reaches about $2.40, which is now quite hard to imagine. It has really problematic consequences for the manufacturing sector. The only way that you can run an incomes policy is with cooperation from the trade unions. So that goes out the window. Thatcher gets rid of controls on money coming in our country.
