The Non-Proliferation Treaty is a momentous arms control agreement still in force today. Five countries are allowed to have nuclear weapons until they get rid of them, but there's no time limit on it. Non-nuclear weapons states promise not to acquire, to develop, to transfer, to having nuclear weapons. In return, they can get peaceful uses of technology, so they can get assistance with nuclear power reactors and radiation for cancer treatment.
