The End of Modernity
In 1848 the world was being disciplined by a standoff between two nuclear superpowers and we were turning back into a kind of global multi-polarity which is very you know confusing unpredictable but which for the people of 1848 was all they knew. Some contemporaries feel early on it's a failure I mean radical there are radicals who already in April 1848 are saying well that's it our revolution is not succeeded if you take for example the situation that arises when elections are held with a much broader suffrage liberals had hoped that once you brought much poorer people in much larger numbers into the electoral process that would produce radical outcomes It turned out the opposite was the case.
