The Ottoman Empire in Palestine

The ottoman empire was eclipsed by christian europe in power, the arabs realized that they had to actually worry about being conquered. There were over a thousand villages in palestine in the mid nineteenth century. These self sustaining village economies suddenly found themselves involved in a world economy. And so this was one aspect of the changes that are taking place that are affecting life in palestine the nineteenth century.
