Xenophon's Message to the Greeks

Xenophon was able to exploit the natural competitiveness that had become apparent between his commanders. Each one wanted to be seen as the bravest, and so each organized their men in the best way they could to achieve the bravest of all acts. The Greeks were in a difficult position now. Having taken the walls and forced the drilai back atop their Acropolis, they were safe from any kind of sortie. But the moment that the enemy decided to try and leave their current stronghold, they would be very vulnerable to an attack from behind. Xenophon wanted to take control of the Acropolis without taking its central citadel but he could not think of an effective way to do so
