The Importance of Being a Freelance Photographer

I left the 2001 to come to Colorado. So I left right before 9-11 happened, which kind of shut down a lot of opportunities for travel photographers. And then the internet came on strong and then newspapers started to lay off. My son went to school to be a photojournalist and he worked for one year out of school. He got laid off after almost exactly a year. That's so tough. They have the last person who was the photographer at the newspaper just retired and they now they have no photo department. It's just a really, yeah. And the reporters, if they take a phone, I guess.
