The History of Genetic Counseling

Many genetic counselors in the 70s and 80s were made to feel out of place when they tried to engage with disability advocacy. Judith Sypus who started the Brandeis genetic counseling program was a biologist by training, never truly a genetic counselor in a clinical sense. Beth Fine too was very much interested and invested in bringing disability perspectives to the genetics field.
