There's this whole fad now for doing your own research. You know, if the claim is right, then you should spend time looking at it. But that logic doesn't actually work because scientists disagree with each other. Scientists can be wrong. So when I read a paper like this, I'm looking for an acknowledgement of what people might expect and why we are different. And I didn't see that in these papers. All they're telling me is we've solved some equations, we got this result, isn't that awesome?"
Welcome to the April 2023 Ask Me Anything episode of Mindscape! These monthly excursions are funded by Patreon supporters (who are also the ones asking the questions). We take questions asked by Patreons, whittle them down to a more manageable number — based primarily on whether I have anything interesting to say about them, not whether the questions themselves are good — and sometimes group them together if they are about a similar topic. Enjoy!
