How Do You Use Trip Wires in Negotiations?

I think we've got sort of this emotional attachment to fear of rejection that really guides a lot of our lives. And so naturally what we do is we almost negotiate with ourselves before we even go into the negotiation. So I really, really do like the trip wire. For me, it's a reset for a negotiation that is headed towards deadlock or a no deal situation. It has saved deals that I felt were about to be lost or a deal that was about to disappear.
