The Evolution of the Brain

We understand next to nothing about the human mind, human thoughts. So we may be able to create a neural network that mimics the human brain. But I don't know if it will ever be conscious or just an imitation machine. We recognize consciousness when we see it, but we can't define it. If you have different AI systems, will they all have their own personalities? Is that something that will emerge? And if it does emerge, does it still mean that the system is conscious?
