Ep. 37: Tiberius Trump
The Re-Education with Eli Lake
The Prelude to the Demise of a Roman Trine
Tiberius Gracchus was a Roman tribune who took on the aristocratic Senate. His main agenda was agricultural reform that would redistribute recently conquered Roman lands in Italy from the land of gentry to the landless plebeians. A faction of senators led by someone named Nausica argued that Tiberius GracChus really sought absolute power. They gathered sticks and other crude weapons and they originally sought to disperse the crowd at Tiberio's supporters but ended up beating him to death. The former tribune's body was then dumped in the Tiber River denying him a proper burial and a place for his many followers to pay tribute to their leader in death.
