The Importance of Belief in Money
Joseph Smith founded the Kirtland Safety Society Bank Company in 1836. He appointed Sidney Rigdon as president while Joseph appointed himself as the lowly teller. The Mormons began printing their own money, which was a common if short lived practice for frontier banks in the 1830s.
