The Rise of Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh
It's been one year since Secretary of State Antony Blinken formally declared that what the Myanmar government did to the Rohingya was in fact a genocide. Many of them were made stateless back in Myanmar, which means that they're not citizens of Myanmar or citizens of any country for that matter. They can't leave Bangladesh. And yet, many of them are trying at extremely high costs. In the past year, the UN has reported that at least 3,500 Rohingya refugees have tried to leave Bangladesh in Myanmar on these deadly sea journeysto other parts of Southeast Asia and South Asia. The United States reaffirms its broader commitment to accompanying Rohingya on this path out of genocide.
