The Problem With Rejection in Social Interactions
There's what's called attention bias. When we go into a social interaction, expecting rejection, it moves us and shifts us into that kind of state of defense or that state of fight or flight. But the problem is that when you perceive rejection in someone's neutral behavior, you actually then change your behavior. So rather than it being about that particular topic feels to you really rejecting them, they might prompt you to become withdrawn. And this can lead to real objective rejection from the other person.
