The Disadvantages of Hunting Cryptids

There's little career value in chasing down cryptids. You can lose funding, you can be scorned. If there's already sort of an academic consensus that this creature doesn't exist, you just don't go there. And it's not to say that these people have been hostile, but they've got all of their programs that are funded.
