The Importance of Elmore Leonard
Timothy Stanley: Elmore Leonard is one of, if not the greatest American writers of the 20th century. He started writing short stories in Westerns and then began to get a bigger rep with his first run of crime books that were set in his hometown of Detroit. The Rayland character was introduced in a book called Writing the Wrap. And clearly he comes back in Pronto, which is another great book.
