The Importance of Trend Following
After AHL was bought by man I moved back to New York. He looked for a market that wasn't bad and we found what was those days the interbank currency markets which were by definition for a professional's market. They also have the even back then the advantage of being utterly and truly bidirectional. We didn't like what we saw in some of the smaller agricultural markets and the metals markets as they became overpopulated. The belief was that our markets take on the personality of the participants so if you are overextended, overleveraged, easily excited, inexperienced, easily spooked than this is a bad market to be in.
